FORMER Bantams play-off hero Des Hamilton has been appointed assistant manager at Eccleshill United.

The Bradford-born 40-year-old, who scored City's first goal in their 2-0 victory over Notts County at Wembley which earned them promotion to the second tier in 1996, will work alongside Eagles boss Sean Regan.

The former midfielder, who replaces previous assistant Billy Swiatek, has been involved in the amateur and semi-professional game after retiring from the professional ranks in 2004.

Having earned a big-money move to Newcastle in 1997, Hamilton went on to play for Cardiff and Grimsby, along with numerous clubs on loan.

A club statement read: "Everyone at Eccleshill United would like to welcome Des on board and wish him the best in his new role. His experience and quality will no doubt help the Eagles across the course of his time here.

"The club would like to thank Billy Swiatek, who was Sean's previous assistant. Billy was a valued member of the team and everyone at the club wishes him the very best for the future."
