Pre-season friendly: Eccleshill United 2 Brighouse Town 0

LUKE Harrop starred for Eccleshill United as they stunned higher-ranking visitors Brighouse Town in a competitive friendly last night.

Chris Lever gave the home side the lead when he slid in to convert Harrop’s 34th-minute free-kick and, after providing that assist, Harrop went one better in the second half as he netted another setpiece, albeit via a huge deflection.

Brighouse created chances throughout but the Eagles defended well and were good value for their win.

Silsden were at home to a representative FC Halifax Town XI and ran out 5-2 winners, thanks to a five-goal haul from Joe Gaughan.

Billy Heath’s side had played at his former club North Ferriby United on Tuesday, winning 3-0 and are preparing to play Bradford City behind closed doors this Saturday, so it was an experimental side that visited the Cobbydalers.

But Silsden boss, and former Bradford City and Halifax Town striker, Danny Forrest will be pleased with result and is happy with his current side’s preparation ahead of the coming season.
