EAGLES boss Sean Regan has been tinkering with his squad since the start of the campaign and feels he finally has the balance right.

Following last Saturday’s home draw, the Eccleshill manager said: “I wish I’d have started the season with the squad I’ve got now.

“The players we had in pre-season were all good players and then we got the four lads from Albion Sports. On paper it was probably the strongest we’ve had at this club for a long time.

“We won five of our first six games and everything looked set for a great season. But it didn’t click for whatever reason and we never really got going – it was stop-start and the results reflected that.”

Eccleshill lost four on the trot after their bright opening and they had another run of four straight defeats in November.

The Eagles’ boss was busy fine-tuning his squad throughout, and the changes he implemented have stiffened the backbone of the side.

Regan added: “We’ve been playing some good football and that positive play has brought us some good results recently. But if you go back to December we’ve been in good form and when we have lost it’s only been by the odd goal.

“The players are enjoying their football and they’re really committed to the club, which is great to see.

“Chris Lever has given us another dimension up front with his height, power and ability to hold the ball up and play people in. He came from local football – he’d never played at this level before he signed for us but he’s taken it in his stride.

“Scott Manning is another one. He was playing local football but he joined us and just put in performance after performance at left back. He was man of the match contender game after game.

“His assist for Alex Cusack’s second goal against Rossington last weekend was typical of him. It was a great break down the left wing and great ball into the area.

“The strength of our bench in that game just shows how well these lads have been playing. We had Marcus (Edwards), Jermaine (Springer) and Anil (Singh) all waiting to get their chance to break back into the side.”
