VICTORIES for Farsley Celtic and Brighouse Town in the Evo-Stik League on Saturday could see the Division One North rivals back in the play-off places.

There could be significant movement at the top end of the table as sixth-placed Farsley travel to eighth-placed Colne, while Brighouse, who are immediately below Colne, host Scarborough Athletic, who are fifth.

Colne are only one point worse off than their visitors but have played five games more.

Farsley are one point outside the play-off places, despite the frustration of last weekend’s home game against Clitheroe being frozen off.

Paul Quinn’s men would leapfrog their visitors with a win as the goal difference is level.

Town will be smarting after suffering an injury-time defeat at basement outfit Burscough last weekend.

Thackley were another club to suffer a postponement last Saturday but the big games in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division keep coming.

They will have to re-schedule last weekend’s home meeting with leaders Cleethorpes Town but must now focus on their trip to second-placed Pickering Town.

The Pikes are only nine points behind Cleethorpes but they have two games in hand, so will be looking to maintain the pressure.

However, the Dennyboys are only one point behind their hosts and they know that a victory would put a new slant on the promotion chase.

Sixth-placed Albion Sports reached the 50-point watershed last weekend but suffered a midweek defeat at Bridlington Town, who displaced Thackley from third spot.

Liversedge host a Staveley Miners' Welfare side who are on the up after they beat mid-table Worksop Town 6-1 on Wednesday.

That win took them to eighth, just one place below Sedge, who will also be buoyant following their 5-2 victory at struggling Armthorpe last weekend.

In the lower tier, Eccleshill United face a tough game as they host Pontefract Collieries, who demolished Ollerton Town 9-0 last weekend as they climbed to fourth in Division One.

Campion were thwarted last weekend as their game fell foul of the brief cold snap and they are now four points outside the play-off places as they make the journey to mid-table Glasshoughton Welfare.

Silsden were climbing Division One of the Hallmark Security League table before last weekend’s 5-2 defeat at Cheadle Town and face a tough home game against Widnes, who are just outside the play-off places.
