THACKLEY played their first home friendly of pre-season last night, and their visitors were Silsden - manager Chris Reape’s former club.

It was the third warm-up game this summer for both clubs but it was the Cobbydalers first away from home, and it was Reape who was left smiling as the Dennyboys ran out 2-0 winners.

A goal in each half was enough for the home side to claim the spoils against James Gill’s Silsden.

Paul Whiteley broke the deadlock in the 17th minute and another former Cobbydaler who put the result beyond doubt.

Kris Hargreaves wrapped up the scoring in the penultimate minute to leave Gill, who had a spell as a player with Thackley, defeated against his former club.

Brighouse Town also won 2-0 at home, beating Harrogate Railway Athletic thanks to two goals inside five minutes of the second half.

Daniel Bunch netted just two minutes into the second period, and Ernest Boafo added a second from ten yards.

Tom Taylor, Town’s new signing, came straight back into the line-up, the keeper returning to Brighouse for a second spell from Farsley Celtic at the weekend.

The Celts opened up their pre-season campaign with a 3-0 win at Wayne Benn’s Hemsworth MW, and there were no signs of rust as they enjoyed a very good first half.

Paul Walker opened the scoring with a 13th-minute direct free-kick and close- season signing James Walshaw gave the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead.

The former Bradford Park Avenue skipper’s home side improved after Benn’s half-time team talk but that could have been helped by the Celts’ joint managers Neil Parsley and John Deacey making several changes during the second half.

Alex Davidson netted Farsley’s third just four minutes before time.

A much-changed Guiseley side were held to a 2-2 draw at Hyde after leading 2-0 in the early stages of the first game on the hosts’ new 3G pitch at Ewan Fields.

A misplaced pass let Oli Johnson in to give the Lions the lead, and Jordan Preston, one of five trialists in the Guiseley starting 11, added the second from the penalty spot after a handball.

The home side also had a sprinkling of trialists, and one of them hit back before the break, a late strike earning them a draw while Guiseley had a scare as close-season signing Javan Vidal came off injured in the first half.

Eccleshill United enjoyed a 3-1 home win over a young Bradford City XI.

A Luke Harrop free-kick gave the Eagles a half-time lead and Sam Bradley and Marcus Edwards added after the interval before the Bantams netted a 75th-minute consolation.
