Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One: Winterton Rangers 5 Eccleshill United 0

WINTERTON Rangers lifted themselves out of the relegation zone at the expense of Eccleshill United after a poor display by the Eagles.

The home side broke the deadlock early when Josh Batty took advantage after an error by the visitors.

It was a huge dent in the Eagles’ confidence after they had gone close in the opening exchanges with a Luke Harrop free-kick.

A rapid brace from Robbie Start gave the home side a 3-0 half-time lead and took the game away from the Eagles.

Start doubled the home side’s lead on the half-hour and struck again just five minutes later.

Eccleshill, who had debutant Matt Stor in their starting line-up, brought Jarad Peltier on for Lee Smith at the interval but things didn’t take an upturn in the second half.

They were woefully short of match practice following five consecutive postponements, and their lack of fitness was evident.

Rangers’ Rhys Vazquez made it 4-0 in the 68th minute, and Kingsley Wetherald wrapped up the scoring.
