IT WAS a busy night in the West Riding County Cup as Farsley Celtic won at home to book a second-round tie at FC Halifax Town.

Silsden also progressed and will now host Guiseley – but there was heartbreak in a penalty shoot-out for Eccleshill United.

In a remarkable first-round tie, the Eagles hit back from 3-0 down at Silsden’s North West Counties League top-tier rivals Barnoldswick Town but, after leading 5-4 with a little over six minutes remaining, they were held to a draw.

A John Beckwith hat-trick in the opening 37 minutes put Barlick in a good position but the Eagles stormed back before the break with goals from Ash Slater and Liam Charles.

Into the second half and Brett Catley levelled, only for the home side’s Dalton Hutchinson to put them back in front.

Adam Turner cancelled that one out and Eccleshill’s top scorer Luke Harrop gave the Eagles the lead for the first time in the tie – but Joe Gaughan equalised with less than three minutes left.

There were another 13 goals in the spot-kick lottery, with the home side eventually winning the shoot-out 7-6.

Meanwhile, Silsden were at Eccleshill’s Northern Counties East League Division One counterparts Selby Town and enjoyed a straightforward 2-0 victory thanks to goals in each half from Joe Mitchell and Chris Wademan.

The Cobbydalers’ reward is a home tie against National League neighbours Guiseley.

Farsley will make the short trip to face Halifax in the next round after vicrtory in another derby clash.

Neil Parsley’s men beat Evo-Stik League Division One North neighbours and long-term rivals Ossett Town 2-1 at Throstle Nest.

The Celts got off to a good start as visiting left back Steven Jeff stabbed the ball into his own net while attempting to cut out a cross.

Ossett’s half-time substitute Mitchell Hamilton levelled the tie in a second period that saw both sides rattle the woodwork before Farsley’s own sub, Rhys Jenkinson, snatched an 89th-minute winner.
