BOTH of the area’s semi-pro clubs in action last night slipped to away defeats in their respective divisions in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League.

Premier Division Liversedge lost by the odd goal at Pontefract Collieries.

The home side clawed some ground back on Sedge with a 2-1 win, and the clubs are now separated by just one point, with Ponte having a game in hand.

Aaron Moxam put the home side in front just before the quarter-hour mark, and Mark Whitehouse doubled their advantage in the 28th minute.

Sedge halved the deficit just two minutes into the second half when Brandon Kane struck but the comeback was not completed.

In the lower tier, Eccleshill also failed to recover from being 2-0 down at half-time as they lost 3-0 at Penistone Church, who moved up into sixth.

They broke the deadlock when Andrew Ring netted in the 17th minute, and Marco Battaglia added to that ten minutes before the interval.

The scoring was wrapped up when Ring bagged his brace midway through the second half.
