GUISELEY could leap back up to third in the Vanarama Conference North tonight if they pick up a maximum three points from their trip to Gainsborough Trinity.

The Lions clawed their way up to brink of the play-off places with a 2-0 home win over Lowestoft Town at the weekend and they would be right back in the mix with another victory.

Gainsborough are 15th after a mixed first quarter of the season but they welcome their visitors after an away win on Saturday. They beat basement outfit Hyde 2-1, a result that brought an end to a four-game winless streak during which they picked up just one point.

Guiseley’s league rivals Bradford Park Avenue are also hoping to be in action. They will be making a second attempt to play their West Riding County Cup tie at AFC Goole. The clubs were frustrated last week when the tie was postponed due to fog.

Brighouse Town and Farsley both have Doodson Sports Cup ties. The Evo-Stik League Cup first round has paired Brighouse, who are 17th in Division One North, with Stocksbridge Park Steels who are in exactly the same position in the South section.

Unlike Brighouse, Farsley have to travel. They head to Scarborough Athletic for an all Division One North clash. On league form the clubs are very close with sixth-laced Farsley one point ahead of their rivals with two games in hand.

Farsley will be without Marcus Edwards after the striker decided to return to his former club Eccleshill United. Edwards scored six goals in 13 starts for Farsley and played his last game in the 2-0 FA Trophy defeat against Blyth Spartans. He was due to play for Eccleshill at the weekend but their game at Clipstone was washed out.
