FINAL-day centuries for Alex Lees and Shaun Marsh steered Yorkshire to safety against Surrey at The Oval.

This Specsavers County Championship draw will be confirmed after tea, likely with an early handshake at 4.20pm.

Yorkshire, made to follow on 198 runs behind yesterday evening, advanced to tea on day four at 277-2 with 32 overs remaining, a lead of 79.

Marsh and Lees reached their respective tons, both their first of the campaign, off 226 and 197 balls respectively this afternoon.

They shared a second-wicket stand of 215 in 67 overs, a Yorkshire record for that wicket in matches against Surrey.

Lees was the only wicket to fall on day four, playing on to Freddie van den Bergh's left-arm spin for 102 as the score fell to 239-2 in the 78th over. At that stage 41 overs were left to bowl.

Marsh had reached an unbeaten 124 by the last interval, with skipper Gary Ballance 25 not out.

Relegation-threatened Yorkshire will finish this match fifth in Division One on 124 points with two matches to play.

Somerset will be sixth on 123 and Middlesex seventh on the same points, with Middlesex in the relegation zone courtesy of fewer wins.
