YORKSHIRE must reach 443 if they are to avoid having to follow-on against Surrey at The Oval – and they reached tea on day three on 375-8 from 116 overs

They lost Jack Leaning for 32, Tim Bresnan for 25, Azeem Rafiq without scoring and Steve Patterson for seven, including Bresnan and Rafiq in one Gareth Batty over.

Yorkshire managed to secure four batting bonus points, all important in their battle to avoid relegation.

Batty then struck twice in the 107th, getting Bresnan caught at slip and Rafiq trapped lbw as the score slipped to 343-7.

Stuart Meaker bowled Patterson in the 114th with 362 on the board.

Andrew Hodd has reached the interval on 41 not out, with Jack Brooks for company on seven.
