I CAN'T wait to get stuck into this season.

It was great to play in Dubai, get the whites on again – and even things like having the photoshoot with the lads last week was exciting. They're all in high spirits.

I'm looking forward to starting strongly and giving Andrew Gale something to think about.

But I had similar feelings last year – the excitement, the nerves – and it turned out to be a massively frustrating summer for me.

Having gone away to Dubai, I picked up a little hamstring problem there, and we couldn't get it right all season. I was distraught.

I wouldn't go as far as saying the 2015 campaign came as a shock to me, but it was massive to play in front of big crowds at Headingley in the T20 and do well, highlighted by five wickets on debut against Derbyshire.

The next year, you want to improve on that and try and play even more games and make more of an impact, maybe get to a Lord's final or a Finals Day, which the lads managed to do.

When that gets taken away from you when you get injured, it's pretty hard to deal with.

At times you feel like some people maybe forget about you and what you've done, and it's through no fault of your own.

It would be easier to take if it was because of a loss of form because then it's down to you.

You get those doubts of 'can I perform on the big stage again, in front of 15,000 at Headingley in a Roses game?'.

But I'm 100 per cent sure that I can, and I want to achieve my goals this year as well as play a good amount of Championship cricket.

There's still a bit to do yet in my recovery.

I'm fit to bowl and play, as I did in Dubai and in the second team at Nottingham, where I bowled a few overs and went well.

It's now about building up my match fitness over the next week or so in the second team.

I will get a few more overs in at Old Trafford during a four-day game from today, and it will be good for me to know I can get through that before going into the first team under higher pressure.

If I can get through that, Ian Dews will be able to say to Galey 'he's fit and ready to go'.

I also have to bowl well, I'm under no illusions about that.

There is not just a place there with my name on it. There are so many good bowlers here, and the younger lads have stepped up. I've got to do the same.

As soon as that happens and I'm able to put the performances in for Yorkshire, it will give me a massive buzz again, like it did the year before last.

Looking at team goals for this summer, with the squad we have and its depth, I believe we can handle a few injuries here and there, coupled with the international call-ups, and still be successful.

Us and maybe Middlesex have got the squads to be up there competing in all three competitions.

If we do have everyone fit and firing, there's no ceiling to what we can achieve.
