TWO games leap out of Saturday’s Aire-Wharfe League programme, with the leading sides in the top two divisions meeting in potential title deciders.

In Division One, Beckwithshaw – still smarting from a 20-point disciplinary deduction – entertain Otley, now just 12 points adrift.

While in Division Two, title favourites Adel welcome second-placed Ben Rhydding, with both keeping an anxious eye on challengers Follifoot as they take on relegation-threatened Skipton.

When Otley and Beckwithshaw met earlier in the season, the Harrogate club were bowled out for 163 but then dismissed Otley for 129.

Beckwithshaw have three of the division’s leading batsmen with more than 500 runs to their name, led by George Myers with 664, while Otley only have David Hester in the top 30.

Beckwithshaw’s attack, especially Alex and James Lilley, are no mugs but they do not have the quality in depth of Otley, with Chris Thompson, James Davies and Stephen Brown all in the division’s top ten.

Thompson is in particularly good form, 19 of his 51 wickets having come in the last four games, and he could hold the key in a finely-balanced match.

Adel have been the stand-out side in Division Two and, with a 38-point lead over third-placed Follifoot, need only three more points to be sure of promotion. Victory will also clinch the title.

Ben Rhydding would love to slow Adel’s charge but will be more concerned about increasing the 14-point advantage they have over Follifoot, the only side to beat them in the last ten.

Their clash may well come down to a duel between the division’s top two batsmen, Rhydding’s Shane Wineti with 761 runs and Adel’s Andy Laws on 734.

Follifoot are at home to Skipton, whose defeat last week by Leeds Modernians sent them back into the relegation zone.

If Skipton should pull off a shock win, all eyes will turn to the results of the other sides still not safe – Leeds Modernians, who entertain Kirkstall, Addingham, who have a tough trip to Tong Park Esholt, and Calverley, who should pick up the four points they need for safety at relegated Thackley.

Pride will also be a factor in Division One, where Burley visit Bilton. Having lost seven of their last nine matches, they are in danger of being overtaken for third place.

Guiseley are the most recent club to beat them and they should get another win against relegated Colton with Ilkley favourites to beat Collingham, the other side going down.

Rawdon have the best chance of overhauling Burley but they will not find it easy against a North Leeds side who have clawed their way out of trouble.

Saltaire wrap up their first Aire-Wharfe season promoted and knowing full points at Bardsey will ensure they take the Division Three title.
