A WHOLE crop of clubs – including East Leeds, whose proposition was the first to be received – want the automatic toss to be brought back in the All Rounder Cricket Bradford Premier League next season.

The current rule gives the away team the choice of bowling first or asking for a coin toss to determine the choice of innings.

A move to start matches an hour earlier met with a mixed response, however.

Buttershaw St Paul's proposed to the league's rules revision meeting at Cleckheaton Sports Club that all games should begin at noon in 2018, instead of just matches in September.

The reasoning there is that it would free up players, and particularly juniors, to do something else after games have finished.

However, Windhill secretary Ian Holdsworth said: "That would rule a lot of our players out as they work on Saturday mornings," while Cleckheaton groundsman Keith Johnstone said: "It is difficult enough getting a ground ready for 1pm, let alone 12 o'clock."

Methley want players to be allowed to register until August 31, rather than July 31 as it is at the moment, as it would free up more students to play

Morley want overseas players to be banned from second-team cricket unless approval is given by the league's management board.

Methley also want under-17 players to be eligible to be loaned to another club for second-team matches, with registration being allowed up to noon on the day before the match.

Farsley want leg-side deliveries to be counted as wides in all first-team matches, while an alternative proposal was that it should be restricted to Premier Division first-team matches only.

Bradford & Bingley want second-team matches in Championship Division One and Division Two to revert to 50 overs from 45.

Another proposal was for the maximum number of overs a bowler can deliver should be 15 in 100-over games, 14 in 90-over matches and ten in 80-over contests.

All 11 proposed rule changes got a seconder and will therefore be voted upon electronically by clubs, with the results being announced at the league's annual meeting at Cleckheaton Sports Club in November.
