HEAVY overnight rain washed out both of yesterday's Yorkshire Premier League semi-finals.

Early-morning pitch inspections at Scarborough, where Hanging Heaton were due to face York, and Marske, where Great Ayton were taking on defending champions Wakefield Thornes, found the grounds to be waterlogged.

With both grounds unfit for today, the matches have now been re-arranged for next Saturday.

Hanging Heaton and York will now play their semi-final at Headingley, while Great Ayton will take on Wakefield Thornes at Scarborough, both with 10.30am starts.

The winning teams will contest the final at Headingley next Sunday again with a 10.30am start.

Yorkshire Cricket Premier League chairman Alan Birkinshaw said: "This has been a frustrating time for all concerned.

"The amount of rainfall that has fallen over the past week left us with no option but to call the games off.

"Thankfully, with the support of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Scarborough Cricket Club, we have been able to retain the integrity of the play-offs as a 50-over competition.

"Hopefully the weather will be kind to us, and with no league cricket being played it is an opportunity to get cricket followers along to support the games, particularly as admission is free."

Both Hanging Heaton and York are competing in the play-offs for the first time.
