TWO of the Bradford Premier League’s most successful clubs will be fighting for their Premier Division lives on Saturday.

Pudsey Congs and East Bierley occupy the two relegation places going into the final round of fixtures.

Batley, promoted last season, are the third team in the mix and there are just three points covering the sides. Batley have 162, East Bierley 160 and Pudsey Congs 159.

Cleckheaton, who have 176, all but guaranteed their safety with victory over Bradford & Bingley last week. It would take wins from two of the bottom three and them to get less than four points from their home game against Lightcliffe for them to be in danger.

All three have home fixtures, with Batley facing third-placed Woodlands, Congs taking on Priestley Cup winners New Farnley and East Bierley hosting Bradford & Bingley.

Bottom team Congs, who have won the league title six times since 2000, have the best current form of the trio.

They have three wins and three draws from their last six matches and will be hoping to continue a sequence which has seen them follow each of their previous three defeats with a victory. Another against New Farnley could prove priceless.

That will not be easy for Babar Butt’s young side. Buoyed by their Priestley Cup triumph, New Farnley are ending the season strongly and their skipper Lee Goddard made 142 when the sides met earlier in the season.

East Bierley have definitely had the toughest run of fixtures. They have lost five of their last six games, with their only win coming over Congs.

After matches against Townville, Pudsey St Lawrence and champions Hanging Heaton, they may feel that Bradford & Bingley – defeated by Cleckheaton last week – will be a less-daunting proposition.

Batley have possibly the hardest fixture of the three clubs in danger. They entertain third-placed Woodlands.

Batley have won two and lost four of their last six matches.

At the other end of the table, newly-crowned champions Hanging Heaton visit the title winners from the past two seasons, Pudsey St Lawrence, in what would normally be the main focus of the day’s programme.

For St Lawrence it will be ideal preparation for their Black Sheep Yorkshire Champion Trophy final against York at Masham on Sunday, while it will give Hanging Heaton a good test before their Yorkshire Premier League semi-final at Scarborough next Saturday where York are likely to be their opponents.

Farsley can secure second place against Townville, who are still hoping to pip Pudsey St Lawrence for fourth place and cap a fine first season in the top flight.
