Yorkshire are in danger of being made to follow-on on day three of their Specsavers County Championship match against Surrey at the Kia Oval.

The White Rose began the day on 40-3 replying to 414, and have reached lunch at 176-7 from 43 overs.

Yorkshire need to reach 265 to avoid the follow-on.

Jonny Bairstow has been their standout with the bat with a superb unbeaten 87.

Joe Root fell without addition to his overnight 14 six balls into the day when he was trapped lbw playing around his front pad by left-arm seamer Sam Curran, who has gone on to take five wickets and received his county cap at lunch.

He also had Harry Brook caught behind and Tim Bresnan caught at second slip for 17 and one respectively.

Rikki Clarke claimed the other wicket, that of Jack Leaning lbw for 20 as, like Root, he also played to leg.

Leaning and Bairstow had shared 67 for the sixth wicket to advance from 88-5.

Bairstow raced out of the blocks and reached 50 off 46 balls, although he offered two very tough chances to point on 19 and bowler Jade Dernbach on 66.

During this innings, the England star went beyond 6,000 Championship runs.

He will have Steve Patterson on four for company after lunch.
