"I'VE just been asked 'Is it hard to get yourself up for the Super League on the back of the World Cup?' But it's just as exciting."

Lauren Winfield, the England opener and Yorkshire Diamonds captain, was speaking at the county's media session at Headingley this week as they build-up to next week's start of the Kia Super League.

Winfield describes the last week and a half as "crazy" following England's famous final win over India at a sold-out Lord's.

"You see the coverage of World Cup here, World Cup there, turning on the telly, looking in the papers," said the Stamford Bridge star. "It's fantastic to see the impact it's had.

"Hopefully that can just be the starting stone for women's cricket to push on and have a massive amount of growth."

Winfield has had a week away from the game, but is ready and raring to go ahead of the second KSL campaign, which kicks off for the Diamonds with a Roses clash against Lancashire Thunder at Headingley a week on Friday.

"New kit day, new team-mates, it's all really exciting," she continued.

"It's good that it's so soon after the World Cup because those people who have supported that competition will hopefully take an interest in the Super League as well."

The Diamonds have a completely different look about them this year to last when they only won one of five matches.

They have three new overseas players in all-rounders Sophie Devine and Sune Luus from New Zealand and South Africa added to Sri Lanka batting sensation Chamari Atapattu.

The White Rose also have a new coaching team in Paul Grayson and his assistant Gareth Breese.

"It's a very different set up and team to last year," said Winfield.

"We've recruited well. We've also brought in Laura Crofts (a seamer from Warwickshire), who is a really good county cricketer.

"I think we're much stronger batting wise.

"Something we struggled with last year was that we didn't have the depth you need in T20 cricket with our batting.

"If you're trying to be positive and aggressive, it's inevitable that you're going to lose wickets. If you're batting line-up's not that strong, you're going to struggle.

"This year our batting line-up is a lot stronger, and we've not lost any bowling.

"Paul's come in and has been brilliant so far.

"We've got to start well. That is the ultimate. There's a lot of emphasis on that first game."

Crofts, along with Huddersfield batting all-rounder Maddie Walsh, are the two new domestic faces in the Diamonds squad this year, with Winfield confident the talent below the internationals can have a big impact.

"It's a tough one because they don't train as much as the internationals do, so the gap is there," she added.

"But that's the whole point of the Super League – to bridge that gap, to give them a competition where they're challenged.

"I think a lot of our girls have developed over the winter and can perform well for us.

"They had a winter programme, which is something they've not had before.

"They've improved a lot, and because they're getting better coaches more often, those improvements will happen quickly."

Yorkshire have two warm-up matches, most notably a trip to Loughborough Lightning next Wednesday.
