BEN Coad and Ryan Sidebottom struck twice apiece before lunch on day two to improve Yorkshire's fortunes against Middlesex at Lord's.

Middlesex advanced from 337-4 overnight to 421-8 in this Specsavers County Championship match, scoring 84 runs in 28 overs this morning.

Coad had opener Sam Robson caught behind for 159 and bowled debutant Ryan Higgins for 13 as the hosts fell to 380-6 in the 106th over.

Sidebottom then forced John Simpson to chop on for 49 and had Ollie Rayner (2) caught at mid-on following a miscued pull to make it 420-8 in the 123rd over.

Yorkshire were not at their best in the north London heat yesterday but they tied their hosts down this morning and enjoyed success as a result. They claimed two bowling bonus points to Middlesex's four batting points.

Toby Roland-Jones begins the afternoon on 24, while Tim Murtagh had yet to score.
