HOLDERS New Farnley are out of the Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup.

Missing four regulars, they were no match for 2015 winners Woodlands, whose total of 201-9 was never under threat as they won by 78 runs at Albert Terrace.

Alex Atkinson (39) and Elliot Richardson (30) were the top scorers for Woodlands as Dave Cummings picked up 4-46.

New Farnley suffered a huge setback at the start of their innings when the in-form Simon Lambert was dismissed without a run on the board.

The experienced Craig Russell top-scored with an unbeaten 45 on an afternoon when his side were unable to break the shackles placed on them by Chris Brice.

The left-arm spinner returned the stunning figures of 10-7-4-2, while Liam Collins polished off the later batting with 3-24.

Jack Hughes hit a sparkling century as Townville inflicted a first defeat of the season on Hanging Heaton in their third-round tie.

Hughes arrived at the wicket with his side 11-2 but transformed things with an innings of 101 as Townville overhauled Hanging Heaton's score of 207 with 6.2 overs to spare.

He hit 16 fours in an 88-ball innings which earned his side revenge for having been knocked out of the Priestley Cup by their rivals in the past two seasons.

Richie Bresnan's unbeaten 42 was also crucial to the successful run chase as Townville secured a four-wicket verdict.

Hanging Heaton failed to use up their full allocation of overs as Townville dismissed them in 48.5 overs.

Joe Fraser (41), Ismail Dawood (37) and James Keen (33) were their main contributors against an efficient Townville attack.

Wrenthorpe, winners five times between 2007 and 2012, also bowed out after suffering a 73-run defeat at the hands of Huddersfield League side Kirkburton.

The tie between Whitley Hall and Hoylandswaine, runners-up for the past two seasons, has still to be played, with the semi-finals due on Sunday, July 9.

Quarter-finalists in the Solly Sports Crowther Cup for second teams, to be played on the same date, are Birstall, Kirkburton, New Farnley, Scholes (Huddersfield League), Wakefield Thornes, Whitley Hall, Woodlands and Wrenthorpe.
