YORKSHIRE are fighting hard to repair the early damage done by losing openers Adam Lyth and Alex Lees in the first five overs of their Specsavers County Championship match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.

The visitors have reached tea at 155-4 from 64 overs, with Gary Ballance’s 74 their standout innings.

Ballance was one of two wickets to fall this afternoon.

He shared 81 for the third wicket with Peter Handscomb before the Australian was lbw to Ryan McLaren for 29 in the sixth over of the afternoon, leaving Yorkshire at 90-3 in the 37th.

Ballance, who has now reached 50 ten times in 15 innings across all forms this season, then fell when he chipped Tom Bailey to mid-off as Yorkshire fell to 138-4 in the 56th over.

Jack Leaning and Tim Bresnan have both hit sixes down the ground off Simon Kerrigan’s left-arm spin, and they will begin the evening session on 28 and nine not out.

Jimmy Anderson will not be fit to bowl for the rest of day one at least due to his groin injury.
