YORKSHIRE'S will be marginally the happier of the two dressing rooms after an intriguing opening morning of the new Specsavers County Championship season against Hampshire at Headingley.
Fidel Edwards and Gareth Berg struck for the visitors, after James Vince opted for no toss, but the hosts reached lunch at 96-2 from 29 overs, Alex Lees and Adam Lyth being the men to fall after a positive start.
Lees drove three boundaries of note either straight or through the covers before losing his off stump to Edwards for 20 as the score slipped to 41-1 in the ninth over.
Lyth had unleashed a fearsome pull shot for six off Edwards into the East Stand before he feathered Berg behind for 30 as he attempted to leave alone, making it 59-2 in the 16th.
Overseas signing Peter Handscomb and new captain Gary Ballance were then watchful for the White Rose county as they advanced to 17 and 24 not out respectively.
