YORKSHIRE director of finance Paul Hudson says the club’s finances will continue to be managed in a “very careful manner” despite revealing a small pre-tax profit for 2016.

The White Rose county’s £3,000 surplus makes little impression on their debt of more than £24m.

It was the first year since 2009 they have recorded a surplus at this level, according to a statement.

The club’s improvement in their results have seen an increase in turnover of over £2m since 2013 and a five percent growth in turnover over the preceding year.

Growing levels of trading have also led to an increase in operating profit of over £1.1m.

Following the financial restructure in 2015, there has been a reduction of approximately £300,000 per annum in the club’s interest payments.

“The club are delighted with this excellent set of results, which are another step forward in improving its financial position,” said Hudson.

“However, there remain many financial sensitivities within the club’s financial results.

“In the light of these, it remains important that finances continue to be managed in a very careful manner.”

Yorkshire say they remain ‘in control of finances at a time of great change in the game’.

Work on the redevelopment of the Football Stand in conjunction with Leeds Rugby is due to start later this year, while there are changes afoot in the structure of county cricket, including the new city-based T20 tournament.

Both will lead to further financial improvements.

Chief executive Mark Arthur added: “These are exciting and yet challenging times for Yorkshire CCC, having made significant progress both on and off the field in the last few years.

“We have had tremendous support from our members, corporate partners, stakeholders, players and staff in achieving this turnaround.”
