HARRY Brook is looking forward to the biggest challenge of his burgeoning cricket career after being picked by England under-19s for next month’s tour of India.

The 17-year-old batsman from Burley-in-Wharfedale impressed during the recent three-week training camp in the United Arab Emirates to earn his place.

The squad, which will be captained by his Yorkshire colleague Matthew Fisher, will play two four-day and five one-day games against the talented Indian under-19s in Mumbai and Chennai.

Brook, who is on an academy contract with Yorkshire and made his first-class debut against Pakistan A at Headingley in June, has enjoyed an outstanding 2016.

He hit the highest-ever score of 198 for Sedbergh School against Durham School as well as scoring heavily for the Yorkshire Academy and playing in the county’s second team.

Brook, who made 98 as the England under-19s beat the United Arab Emirates in Dubai at the end of their training camp, is thrilled to be selected.

He said: “It is going to be a big challenge because of the different types of pitches and the heat, so I am looking forward to it.

“I hope I can do well and get runs. I am sure I will learn a lot from playing in India.”

Brook, who will have one training session with his Yorkshire colleagues before returning to school for a couple of weeks, won’t just be concentrating on his cricket on the sub-continent.

“I will have to do 35 hours of work for my BTEC in Sports Science to do while I am away,” said Brook, who is now in his fourth and final year at Sedbergh.
