Witter red-hot in training
Junior Witter takes a break from training in Bradford last week
Junior Witter takes a break from training in Bradford last week
Junior Witter is used to hot air so he won't be blown off course by any boasts from his next opponent.

Witter admits his latest week of training in the Canaries was the toughest yet as he prepares for Saturday's world title defence against unbeaten American Tim Bradley.

Bradford's light-welterweight king is accustomed to punishing warm-weather sessions in the build-up to his fights.

But he has had an added opponent to conquer this time - the notorious calima, the dry wind filled with dust and sand that often hits the Canary Islands.

Witter admitted: "That week in Gran Canaria killed me because it was absolutely roasting. I'm used to the heat out there but for the last four days there was this hot wind which was a real nightmare.

"You'd walk around the corner and suddenly it would hit you full on, making it difficult to breathe. A couple of lads came back with really sore throats because of it."

Bradley, from Palm Springs, has been making confident noises ahead of their showdown at the Nottingham Arena. But Witter believes that plays into his hands.

He added: "Bradley is coming here to win and I'm happy with that. But the pressure is on me because I'm the champion and this is going out live on ITV - and that's how I like it.

"I'm expected to win and to perform and that's when I'm at my best."

When Junior gives Bradley a pasting live on ITV, and Lazcano gives Hatton a good beating in 3 weeks time, people will have to sit up and take notice that Junior is, without doubt, the best light-welterweight fighter in the world!
