Crowghyll A got off to a flying start in the Observer League with a 25-5 success over Queensbury A.

It came thanks to 21-6 victories from Roger Waller, Geoff Shores and Ronnie Bradley, ably assisted by captain Winston Bull (21-9).

Lister stalwart Nino Esposito produced a great 21-5 success to get Lister A off to the perfect start in their match with Tyersal A. But Wendy Shimbles (21-7) and Jamie Lindley (21-8) replied for the visitors, helping them to a 20-10 victory.

Malcolm Wilkinson (21-7) was the pick of seven home winners for Wibsey A as they defeated Heckmondwike 20-10, who had Jenny Berry (21-9) on top form.

Greengates are certainly a team on the up and started the season in fine form with a 25-5 thumping of Driglington A, thanks to Paul Ridealgh (21-6), Stuart Wilson (21-7), Steve Bastow (21-8) and Malcolm Grainger (21-9).

Pudsey Littlemoor B have recruited well and could be early favourites for promotion.

They opened up with a 27-3 success over hapless Peel A, with Bob Baines (21-4), debutant Andrew Woodhead (21-4), Peter Brown (21-7), Alan Mazurke (21-7) and Glen Miller (21-7) starring.

Newcomers Akroydon Victoria opened up with a 21-9 triumph on their own patch over promoted West, thanks to Michael Uttley (21-7), John Butterworth (21-9) and David Stansfield (21-9).

Asa Briggs C edged home 17-13 in their home match with Wibsey B in the Riley League.

Alan Clayton, who found himself demoted to Wibsey's second team, and Michael Sansome both carded 21-9 victories but Clive Foord, with a 21-3 triumph, and Brian Powe gave the home team the narrow advantage.

Ladyhill B were promoted two divisions after staying undefeated last season and found it tougher going as they could only manage a 15-15 draw at West Royd, despite Paul Outhwaite's 21-7 success.

Geoff Lacey (21-3), Alan Layfield (21-8) and David Hall (21-8) ensured a draw for the hosts, despite them having only four winners.

Eddie Pells (21-3) and Daran Rees (21-9) were the pick of seven away victors for Horton A as they overcame Queensbury B 21-9 away from home.

Guiseley B were 24-6 winners over Horsforth Woodside B, thanks to excellent performances from Margaret Wood (21-4), David Swain (21-4) and Margaret Orchard (21-7).

Laurie Taylor (21-7) and Malcolm Ellis (21-9) made the difference for Birken-shaw as they beat Rufford B 16-14.

Horton B and Cleckheaton Sports drew 15-15 in the Field Packaging League. Elaine Binns (21-7) replied for the visitors after Pat Gilderdale's 21-8 success for the hosts.

Wally Laws (21-3) and Daryl Fieldhouse (21-6) were the pick of eight home winners for Wibsey C as they eased past Bailiff Bridge 24-6.

Winners by the same margin were Tyersal B over Lister B, thanks to Florence Woodhead (21-2), Alan Walker (21-2) and Arnie Bennett (21-8).

Jack Farley's 21-8 victory was not enough for Shelf B, as Alan Clements (21-8) helped Crowghyll B to an impressive 22-8 away success.

Oakenshaw B started the season well with a comfortable 23-7 home win over Bowling B.

Ian Haigh (21-6), Harry Foster (21-6), Ted Piskozub (21-9) and Malcolm Calam (21-9) all played key roles.
