New season gets underway

The new Bradford League season starts on Saturday, with the Observer, Riley and Field Packaging sections first to get underway.

The Monday Evening League, Pairs League and Half-Holiday League then kick-off next week.

Halifax clubs Hove Edge and Akroydon Victoria are new recruits this year, proving how strong and successful the Bradford League is as clubs from outside the city apply for membership.

Shipley Club A have also joined from the Airedale & Wharfedale League.

The top-flight Naylor League will be tough to call this season, with lots of players moving clubs during the winter. Brighouse Sports A will surely start as favourites and will be keen to make it a hat-trick of titles - but they face strong competition from Crossroads and Littlemoor A.

Newcomers Shipley Club should fancy their chances of immediate success in the Godwin League but relegated Ladyhill A will be looking for a quick return to the top section, while Rufford A and Guiseley A also cannot be ruled out.

The Observer League is wide open this time, with all clubs seemingly in with a shout. West and Greengates are definitely clubs on the up but newcomers Akroydon Victoria are an unknown quantity.

Clubs are reminded, as per competition rule three, that "a list of members with British CGBA registration numbers must be sent to the association registrar by March 31".

Also, as per rule 13, "on or before a fixture date, clubs with more than one Saturday team must register with the fixtures secretary their three best regular players and all other players of registered player standard regularly available for Saturdays, and a further two players by May 31".
