Albion Sports: Sandhu delight at Flaherty capture
5:00pm Friday 19th October 2012 in Sport By Ian Whiting
Charlie Flaherty has moved from Eccleshill to Albion Sports
Albion boss Kulwinder Sandhu pulled off something of a coup when he snapped up the much sought-after Charlie Flaherty in midweek.
His new signing did not disappoint as he opened his account on debut.
Flaherty (pictured) was making a name for himself in the Baris Northern Counties East League with Eccleshill United but he left soon after Ian Banks quit the hot-seat.
He played one game after the former Bantam’s departure but left out of loyalty to the man who had given him his first taste of the semi-pro game.
Glasshoughton Welfare had been interested in taking Flaherty into the top flight and Silsden were keeping tabs on his situation in the close season.
But Sandhu struck while the iron was hot and got his man.
Sandhu said: “Charlie is a very good player. He is skilful and very aware on the pitch. He is also a very hungry lad and his work-rate is high.
“We are delighted to get him and he netted the last one in our 5-1 win on Wednesday.
“It was a very good night for us because we had five scorers – Gary Tyson and Graham Sides in the first half, Danny Facey and Roy Stamer – direct from a corner – and then Charlie in the second.
“We also had no injuries so we can name more or less the same squad for once.”
