Another day, another signing as Jarrod Sammut commits future to Bradford Bulls
7:00am Thursday 18th October 2012 in Sport
Exclusive By Ross Heppenstall, Bradford Bulls Reporter
Stand off Jarrod Sammut signs his new two-year deal
Jarrod Sammut has become the latest player to commit his future to the Bulls after signing a new two-year contract.
The versatile Australian, who arrived from Crusaders on a one-year deal last winter, put pen to paper yesterday and will now look to claim the stand-off berth left vacant by Ben Jeffries’ retirement.
He is the latest in a line of Bulls players to sign new contracts in recent weeks, with Chev Walker, John Bateman, Luke Gale and Manase Manuokafoa having all committed their futures to the club.
Sammut endured a stop-start debut campaign at Odsal, suffering cruel luck with injuries, but ended it on a high with four tries during the final-round defeat to Catalan Dragons in Perpignan.
Now the 25-year-old Malta international wants to become a first-team regular and form a partnership with scrum half Luke Gale.
“I’ve got a chance to establish myself as the regular number six now,” said Sammut.
“I didn’t get the chance to play with Galey as much as I would have liked but that’s something that we will be working on in pre-season.
“Hopefully we can form a partnership to be reckoned with next year.”
Sammut had attracted interest from a number of other Super League clubs but said his first choice was always to stay with the Bulls.
He added: “When you know your future is secure, you feel a lot more settled and at ease.
“It’s great to get something finalised and put pen to paper.
“I did have a few other options, which is always good to have up your sleeve, but my priority was always to stay at Bradford.
“Long-term, I wouldn’t mind maybe going back to Australia and playing in the NRL but I’m settled here and England is my home.
“I really enjoy playing in Super League and now I’ve signed a contract extension I’m looking forward to helping us getting back to being the dominant force we once were.”
Bulls coach Francis Cummins said: “Jarrod is one of those players who can do things that others can’t.
“We’ve sat down and addressed other parts of his game and I think he’s ready to step up now.
“That’s what I’ll need from him but he showed at the back end of the year that he can definitely contribute.
“Jarrod’s challenge now is to produce the good on a regular basis because he definitely has the talent.”
The RFL have again classed Sammut as federation-trained and his new contract is subject to him obtaining a working visa.
The report into the investigation into the Craig Kopczak affair has been sent to the Bulls and the RFL are understood to be hoping that a settlement is agreed with Huddersfield for the player’s services.
As yet, no suitable offer has been made by the Giants.
The Bulls, meanwhile, will provide the opposition for Danny McGuire’s testimonial on Sunday, January 20 with a 3pm kick-off at Head-ingley.
The Bulls will also play Dewsbury in what are likely to be their only two pre-season fixtures ahead of the 2013 campaign.
Meanwhile, the latest fans forum will be held in the Coral Stand next Friday (October 26) with a 7pm start.

As far as top 8 talk goes, to my mind without signing some really decent level front rows to replace the 3 who've gone we will be in big trouble and we need to address that issue.

Lets hope sammut keeps his nose clean and doesn't get arrested and held overnight in police custody- oops was that meant to be a secret!
I thought franny wanted to build a team from the youngsters? So what's this about them trying to screw over southernwood? Naughty games being played all because the Bradford bulls are skint!!!!
Another good signing showing that we are going in right direction. Get some compo for Kopcheque and sign at least one proven front rower and maybe we can scrape into the 8, but even if we don`t we have survived.

Current squad is only lighter than the team that finished last year on 2 big defeats so come on tell us the story. I will be at the forum and will expect fans to give FC/OK a grilling, Pre season training is only weeks away.

The Bulls announced Pryce and Joseph are leaving. they didnt say anything about Addy or Ainscough etc. We don't need Sherlock to tell us FC wants the other players. FC will prioritise the players - Bateman, Gale & Manase etc and will work down the list.
The problem I see is that its only the players already there being signed and released daily, I am sure that people on here would just like to see who is staying in one list rather than this dangling a carrott on a daily basis to keep the fans from voicing opinion when the expected( by some ) big names don't come.

I assume by that question you did not know one of our hottest stars, Bradford born and bred, was on such a deal. In all honesty, quite shocking for a 'fan' not to know that.

I would have thought being in a better financial state in twelve months time would have meant more to you than a higher league placing.
I can see there will be tears before the seasons out.

The situation is better than last year, money is available for salaries or why would they have re signed, along with the admin staff. There'll be no tears at Odsal this season or any other for that matter.
Either these players have taken a huge cut in salary or you are headed straight back to last seasons woe's surely?

If you did read beyond this paper, you would have seen that Salford have just got on the sticky slope. Cas,will follow soon.
The Bulls were at the tip of the iceberg and that is now beginning to melt. Time for Red Hall, to step in and check the finances of ALL the SL clubs, prior to start of season. By books I mean the real ones not the set kept for the taxman or salary cap inspectors.
How's the family.

FAKE, why do you persist in talking to yourself. Mind you, the laughs I get from your useless efforts. Have made me contact, a friend, who helps produce a well known adult comic, not the t n a I might add. He has contacted a writer/cartoonist to produce a cartoon strip for my approval. Don't worry no names will be mentioned that will upset, the living dead or the brain dead. I will endeavour to have it printed for you.
