Northowram Fields Cricket Club hit upon a season-long winning streak after a local company stepped in to give a much-needed boost to its training facilities.

An £800 grant from the Community Fund run by the Leo Group, a company that specialises in renewable energy and owns Omega Proteins at Thornton, went towards replacing the club’s nets and repairing the artificial bowling wicket which had fallen into disrepair.

The new facilities had a major impact on the field of play, with the under-11s winning the double of the Halifax League and Collinson Cup and remaining unbeaten all season.

“In junior cricket, and at this age, that’s pretty impressive,” said Rob Larner, the club’s first XI vice-captain.

“Children across all age groups benefit from the equipment and we have had impressive results all year from all of our junior teams.”
