Cup of cheer for six-try Old Grovians

Old Grovians 38 Whitby 5

Six years after forming, Old Grovians entered their first cup competition – the Yorkshire Silver Trophy – and progressed through to the next round.

John Hinchcliffe scored the opening try for the hosts before skipper Chris Blackhall got the second – his first for six years.

The match was halted due to Grovians prop Jaskaran Deu dislocating his knee cap but the hosts went in 19-0 up at half-time as Adam Weaving crossed for a third try.

Kyle Evans crossed twice in the second half, including a length-of-the-field solo effort, and Gaz Phillips got a sixth before Whitby added a consolation.
