Youthful Baildon push Goole all the way

Goole 18 Baildon 16

A spirited Baildon side, containing two 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old almost pulled off an unlikely victory against a much heavier and more experienced Goole in Yorkshire Three.

After going behind to an early converted try, the Jenny Laners fought back strongly, forcing their hosts into several infringements which 21-year-old left wing Jarrod Huss took full advantage of. He landed three successive penalties to nudge Baildon in front.

Huss was again on the scoresheet after 35 minutes after some fine work from outside centre Elliot Morgan. He sprinted down the left flank and drew the cover defence before timing the inside pass perfectly for Kiwi Huss to touch down under the posts. Huss tagged on the extras to give his side a 16-7 lead at the break.

Goole played to their strengths after the break. Their ten-man rugby had the Jenny Laners defending their own line for long periods.

Baildon defended superbly but eventually The hosts’ domination paid off with a second try on 53 minutes and two penalties gave them a two-point lead.

Baildon nearly snatched four points when Morgan broke the defensive line from just inside his own half with the last move of the match, only to lose his footing just short of the line.

The Jenny Laners left East Yorkshire with just one losing bonus-point but, with so many promising young players, will look forward to a bright future.
