Former Ajax, Juventus and Barcelona midfielder Edgar Davids has taken up a coaching role with City’s League Two rivals Barnet.

The 39-year-old, who has been out of football since a brief playing stint with Crystal Palace in 2010, has been named joint head coach of the Football League’s bottom club alongside Mark Robson.

Davids told the club’s website: “I’m happy to explore my possibilities and share my knowledge and experience. I am very excited about the challenge ahead.”

A statement on Barnet’s website said he could make his debut within a fortnight.

Barnet have struggled under Robson. They sit at the foot of the table, with no wins and just three points from their 11 games
