Ricky Ravenhill: It was great to right the wrongs of Bradford City display at Dagenham

Ricky Ravenhill column

I had an extra reason to be pleased with Jonny saving the last penalty to beat Hartlepool.

I was actually next in line – and was limbering up ready to take one when their lad hit the crossbar!

It was a strange way to end it because nobody was quite sure what the ref was going to give.

We all thought the ball had missed and not bounced over the line. But we didn’t want to get too carried away until we heard the official news.

So it was a bit of a subdued celebration afterwards but everyone was delighted with the result and the performance.

It’s great to go through but the main aim for us was to put Saturday right. Obviously it wasn’t good enough at Dagenham and we needed to put in a solid performance at the next possible opportunity.

On the whole, I thought we outplayed a League One team at their place from start to finish. We looked strong throughout the team.

We have a nice little record in cup competitions at the moment but now we’ve got to turn our attention quickly back to the league.

It’s good to have that distraction from cup games but this is the bread and butter and we need to pick some points up after a little bit of an indifferent time.

At the moment there’s nothing in the table. You put back-to-back wins together and you’ll suddenly be up there in third or fourth place.

We need to get those wins back on the board sooner rather than later. That’s what we’ll be looking to do against York on Saturday.

I’m starting to feel back to my old self playing again. It’s hard when you’re just in and out of the team. You need four or five games under the belt to get that momentum.

Taking Dagenham out of it, I think it’s gone pretty well – and I nearly had a goal on Tuesday when that header looped up against the crossbar.

I don’t score that many and I’m certainly not known for getting headers. I think the last one was for Darlington against Dagenham and that was quite a while ago.
