Good move by Matty Blythe to join Bradford Bulls, says Warrington coach Tony Smith

Tony Smith believes Matty Blythe’s move to Odsal gives him the opportunity to prove he has a long-term future at Warrington.

The Wolves centre, 23, will spend the entire campaign on loan with the Bulls but he is contracted to his parent club until the end of 2014.

Smith feels the deal will benefit all parties and hinted that a successful stay at Odsal could propel him back into the reckoning at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Smith said: “It will be best for Matty’s development for him to get some regular experience with Bradford.

“That is what this move is all about, him getting game time and them getting a good player.

“We probably can’t give him the opportunity on a regular basis that he needs and I think that this route is arguably the best way for him to develop a future with us.

“He will head over there and start getting some week in, week out experience at Super League level.

“That will give him his best chance to play for Warrington, which is the ultimate ambition of both him and us.”
