Bradford walkers are golden oldies

Several members of the Bradford-based Yorkshire Race Walking Club struck gold during the Yorkshire Veterans 3,000m Track Walk Championships at Princess Mary Playing Fields in Cleckheaton.

Bradford duo Mick Coffey and Phil Carroll won the over-45 and over-50 categories respectively, while Alan Brooks of Cleckheaton took the over-65 title.

Club president Geoff Dowling of Heaton celebrated his 80th birthday by taking gold in the over-80 event.

The Winter League season starts on Sunday, with Yorkshire RWC promoting 10,000 and 5,000 metres races from Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre in Cleckheaton (11am).
