Your club needs YOU! Bradford Bulls owner issues plea to fans
7:20am Saturday 6th October 2012 in Sport
By Simon Parker, Bradford City Reporter
‘We have shown our commitment by securing John Bateman, now show us yours’, is the message from owner Omar Khan
Bulls fans are being urged to follow John Bateman’s lead and back the new regime at Odsal.
The exciting second-row talent yesterday pledged his future to the club for the next three years.
Now owner Omar Khan and honorary chairman Gerry Sutcliffe want the local community to show their commitment through season-ticket sales and sponsorship.
Khan said: “I’ve gone in to this blindly. I’ve gambled on this and they should gamble on me.
“We are here to do something positive with the club and we’ve shown our commitment by signing John Bateman.
“The supporters need to come out and back us in a bigger way. This is their club.
“Keeping Bateman is the best news we’ve had since I’ve taken over the club. He is a jewel in the crown and a homegrown talent.
“He could have gone elsewhere but we told him he would be a bigger star staying in Bradford. This is his base.
“That is what we want for the future, taking more local people and getting a younger team coming through the academy.”
It is understood that Hull FC were prepared to offer a mega deal to lure away the former Bradford Dudley Hill teenager. But he stuck to his guns to deliver a statement of intent for the new-look club and coach Francis Cummins.
Former sports minister Sutcliffe said: “It’s like having a new signing. He’s a star of the game and one for the future both at Odsal and internationally as well.
“We’re keeping our best players and Franny’s already working on bringing others in. We now need the supporters to be onside as well.
"We have to make sure that Omar’s commitment now is matched not only by the fans coming through the gates with their season tickets but also the businesses of Bradford.
“We’re showing that we want this club to be at the top. But we also want people to be proud of this club as part of the city’s fine heritage.
“I want things to happen as quickly as they can but you can see why people might be hanging back. They want to know what sort of chance we’ll have next year.
“Well, we’re trying to give ourselves the best possible chance by keeping the likes of John Bateman and I hope people will see this as a big signing for us.”
The prospect of playing for rookie boss Cummins was another persuasive factor in Bateman staying put. Khan has only worked with the former Leeds stalwart for a short while but believes he is a star in the making.
“I think he is one of the best young coaches in the game. His hunger and commitment to the club is immense and you can feel that sitting down with him.
“We’ve made a great choice by having him on board. We’ve let him pick and choose the players, it’s his team and he is delivering.
“We’ve made the budget available and Franny is a very shrewd coach.”

So for the business to operate, it has to have money, where does it get that money from members, as in working end clubs. Or in the case of a professional club, it's supporters. No supporters no club. Therefore it is un for the mutual benefit of both. Money equals profit, profit equals money. The club can only succeed if supporters, sponsors put money into it.
It's a business NOT a club. Clubs are run for the mutual benefit of members.

The legacy that MP has left will I hope be built on by FC, the respect we the supporters and the players have for him is already in place and I’m sure will grow as the results start to come in.
There are some of you out there, who are BULLS supporters but stayed away because of past management, now your time has come, buy your season tickets and come home.

What happened to the sponsors lined up by previous management or new\existing sponsors? May be early days but OK needs backing from Business community as well as fans.
On other matter good SL Final, congratulations to Whinos but please can we have teams other than Leeds \Saints competing next year, hopefully Bulls, but if not Hull, Dragons, Wildcats or even Warriors can be competitive enough to get there.

Well..I'm surprised did Mr Omar Khan do no homework before he took the bullson, it just shows his leadership skills are extremely poor, he is a poor ambassador for the Asian community, where is his money? You don't buy a club then bring out your begging bowls out with in a month. The club is in no financial state now then it was before Mr Khan has taken over. What a shame.

As GIGO rightly points out to you Katie, promoting sales of Season Tickets is NOT 'bringing out the begging bowls' as you state, rather a well timed and prudent push to maximise the paying customers - they/we are the life blood of the Club/Business after all. Let me ask you a rhetorical question... If you bought the Coca Cola empire would you cancel the advertising and promotional activity because you had the money to buy the business in the first place? Of course not, you would maximise and create as many revenue streams as possible to make the business profitable.
One final comment, you compared the financial state of the club now as to what it was before OK took over - WRONG - there wouldn't have been a Club if he hadn't have taken over and the Club is debt free. Previous debts were the responsibility of past regimes and if they had showed as much business enterprise that Mr Khan has already shown after just a few short weeks, well, perhaps we wouldn't be where we are today.

So come on get behind the club-more season tickets = more income = more money to invest in the club/players/future.

Buy your season tickets now-we've got ours and we got the discount. What more can you ask for? You can't have them at last years prices, it isn't & wasn't viable-that's why the club of Hood & Bennett got in such a mess. Do you want to be in that position again next season?

I just hope Omar wasn't dragged into this on a tide of emotion. It's one thing preparing business plans that deal with the theory of running a business and another dealing with the harsh realities of life.
I don't know what volume of season tickets were budgeted for, but it's clear that Omar doesn't have bottomless pockets and, without a large degree of support at the gate, another financial crisis can't be ruled out.

Don't forget, OK passed the RFL test for having the monies to run the club. What he is actually saying his, I've put my money in. Now, you as supporters do the same. In other words get your season ticket, I have just bought two, on the three monthly set up. It's a good deal, you go up to Odsal and get yours Pablo. Or have you spent all your cash on one for Valley Parade.
If you take time out and read up on what is happening at other clubs, you'll see the how other clubs are out, begging supporters to buy their season tickets. If you want to watch Giants, £99 and yet their owner will not bail then out again. With gates less than Bulls, how will they survive the 2013 season without his help. The current format of the SLneeds major surgery otherwise????

Ok has only had to find £150k.£100k the balance of purchase money is not due till 2015!
Gamble it is and he is no doubt getting nervous if season ticket sales are slow given that he has to find september october and novembers wages (plus all other overheads)without any other income.
The wages were estimated with Employers PAYE to be around £750k.
Remember it was onlt April when fans coughed up £400k.(that was the amount finally raised by the pledge not £500k)
Times are hard.
The Odeon in Bradford closed in july 2000.To share one with Leeds at Thornbury. On saturday I dropped my daughter and friend off to see a latest blockbuster. They were the only two in the cinema!
On a fine day the Bradford Park Avenue owners five a side 3G pitches changing rooms and bar wereall shuttered up when I would have expected tons of kids to be taking advantage of the fine weather kicking a ball around.
It was only 6 quid in at the cinema.
On dropping my daughter home the 11th earl at Horsforth was deserted.
Its always been usually packed offering carvery at a little over a fiver.
On a saturday night.
These are incredibly tough times for everyone in the country and Bradfordians are poorer than most.
We all wish Omar well but gamble it is.
as Gerry said he is not Roman Ambranavich.
In fact my and colleagues research shows Omar is mainly involved in charitable social enterprise business.
He is tied in with Bradford college in training up curry chefs where there is a desperate shortage following clampdowns on allowing them already trained into the country.
5 years ago he sold his boutique hotel next to Lister Park (called the Lister Park Hotel)to his new admin guy at the Bulls. For £400000.The new admin guy was going to invest £1.5 million in the place.18 months later it was back on the market for £350k and in tht hands of administration.
Whenever I passed the place from 2005 there was one man and his dog in there. But always a very expensive car in the car park.
He apparently does not own his restaurant on Little Horton Lane just fined £15 grand.Despite all the press regarding him as owning it in the run up to his purchase of the Bulls which he had every opportunity to deny.
wonder if he owns the one in Skipton.
He does of course now own the Coral Stand which cost £2.17 million.
For £150k paid on account.
So now the Sky money coming Bulls way has stopped I would too be getting a bad taste of the jitters.
If I had to find £750k by the end of November just to pay the wages never mind next seasons wages.
That is exactly how Mr Hood operated.
Paying last seasons debts with next seasons revenues.
There will be no more cushion support from the RFL.
The bed is made the bets are placed and if I were a betting man I would say it will all end in tears.
Because the numbers are frightening,unrealis
tic in this mother of all recessions and the Bradford public are skint many jobless and with bad news every day regarding benefit cuts,Morrisons taking jobs to India, thomas Cooks closing (400 jobs)and daily dissapearing business that have had a presence in Bradford for over 100 years.
I am sorry to be old and cynical.
when I was younger I hoped to meet my dream girl. These days I"ve lowered my sights and would just hope to meet one thats not a nightmare.
To all those dreamers that think the worst is over.I think the worst of these past 7 or 8 months will continue.
The gamble must be.Raise £1.5 million in season ticket sales by the end of December.Anything less and the begging bowl will be out again and then it truly could be death of the club.
Its very serious and the only evidence OK will have been forced to show was that he could find the £150k.Which he has scraped together.
COYB.
Find it from somewhere or I see dark forboding by christmas.
The problem is all you pay now will be used to pay those players that are still yo be paid till the end of November.
Which includes all those not even staying.
Please dont advise me I am a pompous t*** Sheffield Bull.
I am a cynic and a realist.
The pipedreamers ran your club for 10 years.
And there are many angry and skint people who were not paid out there in Bradford.
And when that happens they all know several more friends that sympathise.
The Bulls insolvency present for much longer than April of this year is a scandal.
I believe it could be (at great expense)be challenged.
The RFl paying just a million for all that land something wrong there.
Ok paying £150k for a stand that cost £2.17 million(and players where John Bateman alone must have been worth £150k)appears all wrong.
The creditors have been stitched up through the stupidity of all concerned
I cannot see the Bulls surviving.
The appeal to Bradford business"s they are all mostly closing.
Even the Tordoff family were not interested. And they do have the money. And have supported the Bulls well over the past 10 years.
scary times.
dig dig dig dig dig dig dig the whole day long.keep finding the brass Bradfordians.from somewhere.but where?.

He"s a big fan and has bucketsfull of enthusiasm
But not bucketfulls of cash.
And neither has Gerry.
Who seems to be spending so much time on Bulls affairs I cannot seem to get response from him in regard to constituent concerns.
Now forgive me if I"m wrong but does the country not pay him to represent Bradford.
Not Bradford Bulls.
yet here he is (honourably though disproportionately spending every spare waking moment on this Bulls thing.
I knows hes a mate of Omar remember deeing him and his council wannabies in there at OK"s 20 years ago.At the top table.
And he genuinely believes that in Omar it is the best for Bradford Bulls.
Overode City"s interest with the only comment about their interest being he would do "what is best for Bradford Bulls"
Interestingly I am advised Omar actually paid Bradford City FC £2500 a year.In order to be their ambassador (for the asian community).
Sounds like the wannabe is going to need to be a betterbe.
Or the Odsal dream will quickly turn to be a nightmare.

Bloody hell Pablo, stating the blindly obvious, if you don't get bums on seats. No money no club. Nobody has "bottomless pockets" as is quite obvious from the number of RL clubs, now, trying the poor tale. Owners cannot and will not continue to put there OWN monies at risk, constantly baling them out. See, Salford, Castleford, Giants, Hull K R.
There are some excellent posts on here giving background details.
There are some naive fans believing that everything is rosey. I'm suggesting it's not.

You quote, attendances for cinemas and pubs, what as that got to do with the Bulls. Sorry, your pointing out the lack of money in Bradord, aren't you. Just because businesses are pulling out of the city centre does not mean there is no money available to citizens. Have any of the major super markets closed stores on the periphery, I think not, but are opening more. Have any of the shopping malls in the area closed down no. People shop in areas where they can find all they want in one place, so why traipse round a city centre, after most of the stores have moved to these malls.

i am pointing out how little money everyone has spare right now and my saturday observation of things supported this.
the rest of my factual research is done from mainly the T & A.you can research the archive editions you know.
Look at how much interest there was in saving the bulls.they came within 24 hours of going because noone had any confidence the thing could be turned round.

By the way, A very good friend of mine, was one of those who was made redundant, had his car taken from him. But continued to work for free whilst looking for a job. When OK took over, his one of his first jobs was to bring back on board those who had been made redundant, who had not found alternative employment back on board. Which he has done. I don't claim to be an insider but one who knows what is actually happening at Odsal not jut guessing. Remember in this world it isn't what you know it's who you know.

I"m not suprised Bradford is bottom of the Education league table of GB with the quality of your posting. You get the life. But you"d better find the brain shop first. Hang on.You"d better not. Things could get dangerous if you had even a half.Very dangerous. Then the Bulls will be struggling Quid pro Quo. Need a copy of the oxford. ehmore guff but no real reason why anyone should listen to you Charlatans are always found out

The Troll with the Trolls name (alfucham- I ask you!) has become even more unstable. The name is is offensive as it's posts. It is now displaying 'delusions of grandeur'...."Becaus e through pressure (yes from the like of me)the bulls sky money is been taken away hopefully to pay those that have been defrauded." Interesting use of the word 'defrauded' Not surprised 'it's' bitter about the education system - after all, it hasn't done any favours for Mr Fucham. With this megalomaniac in full flow, I wouldn't be surprised to read shortly that it's invaded a small Country. Thats all. End of Eh?

See the stuff he writes in the News blog, just as bad, hard to follow rubbish. I fail to see what he his trying to say. Blaming OK for all that has gone wrong before. Believes he 's no cash. RL wouldn't have sold the club to him if he didn't have the where withal to take the club forward. If alfucham reads the archives he would see that OK sold his businesses a long while before buying the Bulls. If they've gone under since then not his problem.
Once again I state that creditors should take up any argument with the Administrator, noy the current Bulls owner. Alfucham, oh, the obscenity of your name matches the obscenity of your posts. Just stick to posting on the news option on this paper.
Shelfrhino, Baboon, seeing as we're playing silly games.

Find me one post of mine that blames OK for what went before?
I point out the difficulties the Bulls face going forward
I am closer in my professional capacity to what has gone wrong in the past than you think.
I have serious reservations as too does Omar as to the magnitude of the gamble.
He has rushed in as a fabulous spitit of energy amd enthusiasm. My messages on here are clear to most,Get behind him and start buying as you Viking have.
I point out facts in the hope that 10000 Bradfordians will realise as Omar does("i cannot do it without the fans" Omar is quoted)that it is impossible to balance the books without your support.
season Ticket sales have been a dribble.they have picked up slightly since the great news of JB.
business sponsors are slow.
Players need to be signed now before they are elsewhere.Ok will be restricted in that recruitment if the season tickets are not been bought now.
the facts are many are clearly feeling this recession and that is what I point out in my observations of saturday.
Its a shame you all turn abusive.
