Steve Kittrick insists Guiseley will not rush into signing a replacement for skipper Simon Ainge.

The commanding England C centre-back went out on loan to Luton Town last week with a view to a permanent transfer.

Kittrick admits the 24-year-old former Bantams player’s departure has left a huge void but warns Lions supporters not to expect a ‘quick-fix’ reaction signing.

“We had trimmed the squad even before Aingey went out and we have a tight ship now,” said the manager.

“But we don’t have many carrying knocks at the moment, so we have enough numbers. You don’t seem to get a lot of injuries when you are playing well. It’s funny that. It’s certainly no coincidence anyway.

“I will look at replacing Aingey in time and I have a few candidates in mind. But all I’m looking at right now is tomorrow’s game, a tricky FA Cup tie at Colwyn Bay.”

Guiseley spokesman and club director Stuart Allen added: “There is no need for a decision right away.

“We’re not backed into a corner or anything and if everyone stays fit, that will be the case. I think Simon will need replacing but it depends who is available as to when that happens.

“Of course, it is all in the balance at the moment because he is only on a month’s loan for now. We expect Luton to want to sign him but until that is confirmed we’re in limbo.”

Kittrick admitted the most likely scenario was that Ainge’s loan spell would be extended to January, at which point if Luton want to sign him permanently then Guiseley could command a fee.

He said: “If he does well at Luton, that might even be another door open to him. There could be other clubs in for him so if Luton want him, they will have to get the deal done.”
