Gary Jones missed out on an emotional return to Rochdale tonight with a back injury.

Jones suffered it during a challenge in the Burton game but was able to play on Saturday. City had kept his situation under wraps but the skipper had been unable to train since.

So Ricky Ravenhill took his place in central midfield and the captain's armband. It was the only change from the side that played very well but lost against Port Vale.

Ravenhill's promotion from the bench meant a first appearance among the substitutes for Ritchie Jones after his own ankle problems.
