Away the lads! Wharfedale end travel sickness

Loughborough Students 10 Wharfedale 32
Wharfedale’s first visit to Loughborough produced that long-awaited away win, putting to bed a sequence of losses on the road stretching back to last December and leaving the Students still searching for their first win.
The Greens will be happy to get that monkey off their back and given their powerful performance this season so far it was no surprise that their firepower up front was more than sufficient to subdue the Students and limit them to largely counter-attacking when they eventually managed to get their hands on the ball.
After seven minutes of complete control from Wharfedale, Nick Taylor squeezed over in the corner and full back Tom Davidson added a towering touch-line conversion.
A rare incursion into attacking territory saw centre Andy Hall secure the Students’ first points with a penalty.
But the Greens, as they have done consistently this season, made their opponents suffer at the scrummage and a neat chip and regather under the home posts by fly-half Luke Gray and routine conversion opened up a 17-3 lead.
Though Davidson added another penalty the Students, with some sustained possession for the first time, rallied with an excellent counter-attacking run from deep by full back Craig Holland, converted by Hall.
With rampaging flanker James Tyson to the fore, the Greens added two final tries in the last quarter. First Tyson himself barged over at the end of surging run, then a fine break by Andy Hodgson and a neat transfer by Tyson saw Taylor again squeeze over in the corner for his second try.
But the bonus point was incidental to the main objective: that long-awaited away win.
