Yorkshire will continue their close-season recruitment drive by adding Durham fast bowler Liam Plunkett to their squad next week.

The White Rose county are confident they can help the 27-year-old former England seamer rekindle his career, after also signing Jack Brooks from Northamptonshire earlier this week.

Despite having one year to run on his deal in the north-east, Middlesbrough-born Plunkett has been given permission to speak to other counties after playing only one LV= County Championship match in 2012.

Injury, loss of form and a drink-driving charge contributed to a difficult year for the bowler, who played the last of his nine Test matches in 2007. He has also played 29 one-day internationals and one Twenty20 international.

Plunkett has worked with Yorkshire director of professional cricket Martyn Moxon in the past.

Earlier this month, Durham coach Geoff Cook said: “It’s been a frustrating year for Liam. We have spoken to him and asked him what he wants to do with his future.

“If he feels there might be better opportunities elsewhere, we wouldn’t stand in his way.”
