Time for all at Bradford Bulls to stand up, urges Francis Cummins
7:30am Friday 28th September 2012 in Sport
By Ross Heppenstall, Bradford Bulls Reporter
Trevor Foster’s efforts to rebuild the Bradford club in the 1960s can serve as an inspiration in the current era
Francis Cummins will draw inspiration from the legendary Trevor Foster as he bids to guide the Bulls into a bright new era.
After a season in which the club were almost brought to their knees before Omar Khan’s intervention, new coach Cummins believes the Bulls are ready to begin another major rebuilding process.
He has compared it to when Bradford Northern folded in 1963 before Foster, who served the club with distinction as a player, coach and director, played a major part in their reformation in 1964.
Foster, who was the club’s timekeeper right up until his death in 2005, is set to be honoured with a memorial gate bearing his name at Odsal .
As the club begin to rebuild under Khan and Gerry Sutcliffe, Cummins said: “I’ve no doubt that this is our 1964 moment.
“It’s a time for us to all stand up. You look back at what Trevor Foster did here and it’s inspiring.
“I read the book at the weekend about how Northern fell away and how Trevor built the club back up.
“Now this is our time for everyone to stand up again and really take this club forward.
“It’s tremendous what people did this year and they will have to do that again. I’ve no doubt they will.”
Cummins is currently working towards building his squad for next season and talks with players and agents are ongoing.
The former Bulls assistant coach has no doubt that the club’s foundations for future success have been laid by the new owners.
Cummins said: “Omar cares about this place and he wants to make it happen – he’s got fire in his belly.
“The stadium and the corporate side of things will generate money for the club which will allow us to eventually invest more in players.
“It’s not been straightforward for Omar and Gerry to buy the club but I like that because that’s where we are as a playing staff too.
“We’re doing it within constraints and we’re not going to pay over the odds. We’ll look to sign players for the right reasons.”

Ross shouldn't the title be " Time for Bulls to pay up " ?

So all the creditors are being paid ? I look forward to it.

Because people might wonder why you care, if not. You don't strike me as a person with a social conscience?
Incidently the article is not about something we can't do anything about, it's about something we as supporters can help to achieve.
If those creditors still do Business with the club, they will at least get the opportunity to realise future profit.
ie the better the club does the more likely they are in getting something back.
In other words your false morality is no good whatsover to the creditors.
So spare us all, and leave the site NOW!

The comings and goings at Odsal are certainly going to be the most interesting events for the next few months. Wigan, awash with money, have the luxury of paying transfer fees and are cherry-picking the league to maintain their dominance. How long for? Who knows? But a certain Mr Fielden is now surplus to their requirements and there could be no better place for him to return to than Bradford. Just like the lad who took him to Wigan, he is Bradford through and through and I, for one, would love to see him in the red, amber and black again.

I had the privilege to meet Mr Foster when I was ne'er but a young lad. An inspirational, genuine and wonderful person. He pointed me in the direction of Odsal and I never looked back. Mr Cummins is correct to evoke memories of 1964 and the passion that rebuilt the club. We did it once and we can do it again.

As you say Trevor Foster was a wonderful guy, I came across him at the Police Boys Club off Whetley Lane back in the 60`s. A true gent. I never saw him play but my dad used to say he was not only one of the greats but also the fairest of players, he never remembered a referee having to speak to him for foul play.

Don't forget to watch the champions at Old Trafford again next week, you could even watch it together in the Foster memorial bar.

Will the Foster memorial gate be the one you all pile out of early when you get handed your ar*** by the Mighty Rhino's.

I do not need to google anything to know those details.
Kindly don't use your low wit or intelligence to class people who you don't know with your own brand of parasitic behaviour.
As far as the Champions go. May I say well done Leeds, your Players and your club, stood up for us when we needed support. We can now repay that support, by supporting your efforts in Manchester, next week.
It's good to see a Yorkshire v Lancs.. (or Cheshire) final next week.
The actual game last night was a cracker wasn't it? I think it was either Eddie or Stevo that said Kevin Sinfield should have been a contender for the Man of Steel, in my opinion he won it last night.
But it's still COYB from me.

.
The thing that amazes me are the incredibly poor attendances at this years play-off games. The two best supported clubs, in a semi-final for the games biggest prize can only draw a little over 8k! If this doesn't cause the RFL to massively re-think the format, we're in a very poor state.

People have paid out for season tickets and SKY subscriptions (if they have it,) plus many clubs and pubs show the Live coverage..it doesn't give them much incentive to go to the game.
Like the challenge cup it's almost like waiting for the final before attending.
ie Save the cash for the final, because you know each round will be televised, as a live game.
Not sure what the answer is, but you're right Shef. it's time for a serious re think on it all.

By all means post but stop taking the p***, especially out of a MAN like Trevor Foster who you will never be good enough to lace the boots of.

I quite often gave him a lift back to his house after he had attended one of our formal meetings, and just chatting to him in the car you learned so much. What an absolutely wonderful man, whom I feel very privileged to have know - sadly, for too few years.
There could never be another Trevor Foster. He would surely have been heartbroken to see what happened to his great club in recent years. Indeed, I wonder if, had he had still been around, whether we would be in this position in the first place?
Hopefully, he will be able to look down and see most of us (ignore the trolls, who clearly have mental health issues) doing our bit to preserve his legacy, and do his memory proud.

I came on here asking about season ticket sales, your fans decided to drift the thread. There's no hatred on my part, I don't see your team as close rivals to us.

I'm sorry if I upset you, I didn't realise you were so precious, never mind eh. The begging bowl's been put away for now but the stink of something rotten still hangs around your club.
