Bradford City women unbeaten in push for summit

Bradford City maintained their unbeaten start to the Women’s Northern Combination season with a 3-1 win over Mossley Hill at Thackley .

And they look certain to increase the pressure on the top two over the next week with games against basement clubs.

First-half goals from Faye Boshell, after just six minutes, Caroline Omboyi and Jodie Redgrave gave City a commanding lead and although the visitors pulled one back the result was never in doubt.

Bottom club Wakefield visit Thackley on Sunday and then fourth-bottom Leeds City Vixens come to town on Thursday. A trip to Liverpool Feds follows and City will be expected to take maximum points on current form.

Huddersfield Town enjoyed an 8-1 win at Cheadle Heath to go fifth.

After an encouraging start in the North East Regional League, at still-pointless Lepton, successive Premier Division defeats have left Guiseley with much to do.

But the City A team moved into third place with a 6-2 romp at home to Goole thanks to goals from Becky Teale (2), Katy Woodcock and a hat-trick by substitute Laura Gadd.

Goals from Claire Needham (3) and Debbie Tomlinson earned Kirklees a 4-1 win over Wetherby, while Nicky Davies was the lone Ossett Albion scorer as they crashed 8-1 to Malet Lambert.

Bradford Park Avenue are anchored to the foot of the West Riding League Premier Division after a 6-2 defeat at second-placed Brighouse but will be hoping for better luck against Pontefract at Horsfall.

Top two Brighouse and Brayton meet while Ossett Town, having drawn 2-2 in their opening game against Hemsworth, now go to Harrogate Railway.

There was no joy for Farsley in Division One, going down 5-2 at Wortley, while Silsden return to action this weekend at home to Rothwell Reserves.

Huddersfield Town Reserves beat Northowram 6-1 in their opening Division Two game, while newcomers Cleckheaton Sporting play Silsden Reserves in Division Three hoping to build on an improved performance in their 4-3 defeat at home to Skipton .
