Diamonds shine but weather a winner in West Riding Sunday Council
4:10pm Tuesday 18th September 2012 in Sport By Sports Desk
The West Riding Sunday Council season concluded in much the same way as the campaign as a whole as more bad weather prevented any match reaching a satisfactory outcome.
But although rain inevitably had the final word, there were still some handsome scores posted on the closing match day.
This included three half-centuries from Diamond players against Shaadi Cards on the heights of Shipley Park.
Javed Mehmood made 65 not out, Rizwan Mushtaq hit 69 and Ijaz Ahmed 66 as Diamond posted 291-6.
Shaadi Cards then reached 77-4 in response before the rain closed in.
Syed Fulgan Ahmed supplied 78 runs of Khan CC’s 197-8 total before the rain prevented Attock Tigers from starting their reply.
A score of 178-5 was Euro Windows’ second-highest this year but it could not prevent them dropping a division as opponents Attock United never got to the crease.
Attock Sweet Centre were all out for 150 against newcomers Indus Ghari’s industrious bowlers.
Mohammed Atif hit a fine 66 in reply but the weather forced a halt at 96-4.
Manningham reached 85-5 before the elements decreed a draw without AMCC getting to bat.
