Two points and top spot are snatched from Steeton’s grasp
Steeton missed the chance to go clear at the top of the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division when they conceded a last-minute penalty to draw 1-1 at home to Huddersfield-based Golcar United.
Damian Whiteoak had given Steeton a first-half lead and they looked like gaining maximum points until John McAliskey converted from the spot.
Unknown to Steeton, at that time leaders Lepton Highlanders were slipping to a 3-2 home defeat against Storthes Hall and Ovenden West Riding – who were a point behind Lepton – were being held to a 2-2 draw against Salts.
The results saw Hall Green United – who were in Wakefield FA Cup action – move up into top spot on goal difference.
Salts took an early lead at Ovenden through David Boote, and then midway through the second half Kyle Berry doubled their advantage over last season’s champions.
Ovenden staged a comeback, with Andy Gregory reducing the arrears before John Booth struck late in the game to rescue a point.
Tyersal faced a full-strength Bay Athletic side and found themselves 4-1 adrift at the break, and though Tyersal staged a comeback, the Huddersfield side added to their total to finish 6-4 winners.
Terry Ryan (2), Mark Beale and Fabian Evans scored for Tyersal, while Brighton Mugadza with a hat-trick, Danny Stocker, Sam Jerome and Danny Ryan hit the net for Bay.
Campion travelled to Overthorpe and, after an even first half, Campion’s strikers found their shooting boots, with James Nestor hitting three to add to strikes from Damian Melvin, Andy Benjamin and Jordan Missin.
They ran out 6-1 winners, with Ashley Hill scoring the hosts’ consolation.
Ventus Yeadon Celtic moved into top spot in Division One after edging out visitors AFC Emley 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller.
Terry Hargreaves took his goal tally to nine in six games with four, Kyle Shah adding a fifth, while Danny Lynes, Jon Irving, Mark Semley and Semedo Joaquim were on target for Emley. Lower Hopton stay in second place after being held to a 3-3 draw at Tingley Athletic. Liam Reilly, Adam Stephenson and Mick Hall netted for the Mirfield side, while Joe Ritson scored all three for Tingley.
The Bradford & District FA Saturday Senior Cup threw up a few surprises.
County Amateur Division One side Dudley Hill Rangers suffered a shock home defeat after Afra Malik earned Spen Valley League side Bradford a 1-0 win.
Wibsey also made an early exit from the competition when Declan Taylor netted all his side’s goals as West Yorkshire League outfit FC Rias took the honours 4-2.
West Horton booked a home game against Thackley in the next round when Gareth Naylor and Morgan Archer both scored twice along with a Lee Smith strike to beat Fairbank 5-0.
Fields Sports & Social Reserves had a comfortable passage when Glyn Hirst (3), Lee Burgess (2) and Adam Porters were on target in a 6-2 home win over Albion Sports.
