Kent plight is further good news for Yorkshire

Yorkshire continued to build a sizeable second-innings lead during the morning session on day three of their LV= County Championship match at Essex.

At lunch they had an advantage of 245 runs on 110-5.

Two wickets fell during the session, with Adam Lyth the first to go for 51 thanks to an excellent catch at short-leg by Jaik Mickleburgh off Tom Westley.

The same bowler then removed Gary Ballance for 27.

By the interval, Bradford-born Anthony McGrath was unbeaten on 12, with Andrew Hodd on one.

At Cardiff, Kent took lunch still 93 runs short of avoiding an innings defeat to Glamorgan on 127-5 in their second innings.

If they don’t win that match then Yorkshire will be promoted regardless of the final outcome of their match at Chelmsford.
