Bradford professional Simon Bedford has made a good start to the new snooker season – with his victory over Ronnie O’Sullivan being the undoubted highlight.

The 4-3 win in the latest Players Tour Championship event in Gloucester rates as one of Bedford’s finest career moments to date.

A break of 98 in the deciding frame ensured he got the better of world champion O’Sullivan in the opening round.

Bedford then defeated Adam Duffy of Sheffield by the same score before falling to eventual tournament winner Rod Lawler 4-2.

The Bradford potter currently lies 39th in the PTC Order of Merit and has risen to number 70 in the world.

* Bradford No 1 captain Kevin Firth enjoyed success on the international stage as he helped the England Seniors side retain their Home Internationals title in Prestatyn.

The Undercliffe Cricket club player was part of a line-up that also included Matthew Davis, Phil Hartley and Paul Norris.

They beat Ireland A 8-4, Ireland B 11-1 and Wales B 7-5, while drawing 6-6 against Scotland. Only a 7-5 defeat to Wales A prevented an unbeaten tournament.

* Entry forms for Bradford Association competitions will be sent out this weekend to all clubs. There is a deadline of Saturday, October 6 so they can start that month.

Please ensure that all forms are completed in full and that the correct entry fees are attached, with cheques payable to Bradford & District Billiards & Snooker Association.
