Yorkshire move top in pursuit of title

Yorkshire had temporarily moved top of the Division Two table as they took tea on day two of their LV= County Championship match at Essex.

This was after they took three wickets in the afternoon session to reduce the hosts to 138-6 in reply to the Tykes’ 312.

It meant Yorkshire had picked up enough bonus points from the Chelmsford contest to climb above Derbyshire in the live league table.

Azeem Rafiq was first to strike in the opening over of the session to remove Owais Shah for six.

Steven Patterson and Ryan Sidebottom then ousted James Foster and Adam Wheater respectively for 16 apiece.

Ryan ten Doeschate impressed to reach the interval unbeaten on 60, with Graham Napier 13, but Essex still trailed by 174 runs.

Yorkshire’s lower-order batsmen had earlier added a valuable 28 runs to their overnight 284-8 before being all out.
