Yorkshire make sound start at Chelmsford

Yorkshire have made an encouraging start to their final match of the season against Essex in the LV= County Championship.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Tykes reached lunch on day one on 111-2 for two at Chelmsford.

Much of this was down to Adam Lyth, who cracked a 69-ball 67 before being ousted by Graham Napier.

The same bowler also removed Joe Root for a duck.

At the interval, Phil Jaques was unbeaten on 36, with captain Andrew Gale on seven.

If Yorkshire win the match and pick up at least three bonus points, they will definitely be promoted back to the First Division.
