Phil Parkinson has put his stamp on Bantams

Phil Parkinson reaches his League Two anniversary this weekend with City in a much better place than a year ago.

The sixth league game of last season was his first as manager. As we reach the same stage, you can certainly see the squad is a lot stronger than it was 12 months earlier.

This is his team now and he’s been able to get rid of the players he wanted to in the summer and replaced them with his own choices.

Look at the calibre of the players he has brought in and they should be more than good enough for this division.

There’s no need to be shouting from the rooftops but we can all be quietly confident about things.

Phil is good about that. He’s not one for getting too excited and keeps things on an even keel, which is the best way to be.

You shouldn’t be as high as Everest after a victory or lower than a snake’s belly in defeat. Keep each result in proportion and that transmits to the players under him.

After the start City have had, they are only a point off the play-offs. With the squad he’s got, there’s no reason why they can’t be there or thereabouts.

Look at the team now and you’ve only got two or three who were playing when he first came to the club. James Hanson , Luke Oliver and Jon McLaughlin are still involved but that’s it.

That tells you what Phil thought of the squad he inherited. It wasn’t good enough and the league position last year proved that was the case.

Now you see names like Andrew Davies and Nathan Doyle, who have played at a higher level, and the improvement is obvious.

What I like is the solid back four. If you’ve got that as a base, there are plenty of players who can deliver at the other end, as we saw with Alan Connell’s goal at Accrington.

He had a good season last year with Swindon and has come in and bolstered the top line.

And you’ve got two wingers who will always be a threat. They are genuine wingers, too, not someone like Craig Fagan who played out there last season but wasn’t a natural wideman.

I’ve only seen the home games but the quality was there to suggest it’s going to be a very positive campaign.

With back-to-back victories at Valley Parade , if they can sort out the away form then there’s no reason why City cannot maintain it.

The fixture list wasn’t kind with the first two away games.

Gillingham will be up there and I think Rotherham will do it this year with the momentum of the new stadium and everything else.

But I wouldn’t worry too much about it because you look at the two cup wins. To get a result at Championship side Watford as well as Notts County, who are flying in their division, suggests they are more than capable.

City were terrific value in the home wins over Fleetwood and Wimbledon.

Come on, after the past few years, we’ve watched some right dross at Valley Parade but Parkinson looks to have got that right.

With two home games coming up now, I’m looking forward to seeing more of the same. With this squad, I believe there is every chance.

Couldn't agree more John. Defnite signs of improvement and long may it continue. There are of-course, quite a few who post on here that will look for any excuse to be negative; who will look for small failings and ignore the bigger picture but PP seems to know what he wants and now he has been able to bring in the players that he wants; City should have a good season.

Thanks KM. It's important that we are all as positive as this if City are to get that longed for good season

Good to hear someone who knows what they're talking about give an honest review of PP, which makes a change from all the drivel written by FM experts on the comments.

PP's an excellent manager, who has an eye for talent, with a huge reputation from within the game that attracts players few others could dream of signing in our league which is a huge bonus and providing we start picking up points on our travels, which let's face it, we were unlucky to come away from Gillingham empty handed and we were robbed at Accy given they had one shot on goal and we dominated, then I see us finishing top three, no doubt about it.

A couple of home wins will get the swingers back on side and singing PP's praises - which will be about time.

Come on City!

Well said John Hendrie. MUCH better than last season and we're only a handful of games into this one. Top half finish at least.

Nothing wrong with being negative when the team selection is negative.
Accrington were there for the taking but parky decides to play one up front.
Your as much as an idiot as your mate city man. Do you go to the same crown green bowling club and domino nights in the pub. Thing that annoys me about you and your mate is your nit picking over nothing with other commenters on here. People like you probably use to complain to mary Whithouse when u heard the word bugger on tv or saw someone kissing. Your one sad idiot.

Building a Team is a process. And when operating a process you don't make big alterations based on the odd blip here or there, you look at the TREND. If we are struggling at away games on a regular basis then you need to alter the way you approach those games.

We seem to have improved in a big way at home since PP took over. What I struggle to understand is why Teams are expected to be better at Home than away. Is the pitch made differently?, is the ball different?, the Ref a Homer? -I said a 'Homer'. What is it that makes it different?

Always wondered the same thing Lonnie. Same rules, same size pitch, same number of players, same size ball. It doesn't just apply to football either. The differences however must have an effect.

The refs at VP have definitely not been homers for many years!
